Welcome to Stover Golf Club

GOLF MARK HIGH ACHEIVER AWARD FOR STOVER

Stover Golf Club presented with the Golfmark High Achiever Award gained after much hard work over the last few months and will benefit the club to expand their successful junior section over the next few years benefiting the Club as a whole.

‘It enables us to offer our services to local schools’, says Jason Fullard the teaching professional at Stover. ‘In the first instance our coaching and taster sessions will be free of charge and conducted in the school environment. We have already had two enquiries to schedule our courses and other positive feedback from a number of other schools in our area, its an exciting time for the club. Both myself and Julia Norman will be visiting these schools in the New Year. We have an exciting and fun programme for the kids and its free’.

Stover juniors have had a very successful year with their team, winning the local league, runners up in the county knockout cup, runners up and qualifying in Regional finals for the junior National Team event, and finishing third in the National finals. ‘Over 1800 junior teams started at local levels in this competition and to finish where we did is creditable to all concerned, both in the team and organisers of the junior section’ quotes John Hayman. He goes on ‘ We have organised and arranged many things for our juniors, the exchange visit with two Swedish Clubs now entering its fifth year and the introduction of a Contract for the older juniors to work forty hours on and around the course have both proved extremely successful, we grow from strength to strength and Golfmark will help us to achieve our ambitions’

The Xmas Turkey Trot Greensome any combination was victim of the heavy snow fall at Stover last Sunday and with the car park also being covered in ice and snow the club’s and professional’s Christmas draws were postponed until conditions improve. So Neil Hayman’s year as club captain comes to a snowy end but in his address at the recent AGM he thanked the members for their support throughout the year and that he had thoroughly enjoyed his term of office and the many happy memories would stay with him for ever. The highlights of his year had been a very successful captain’s weekend at the end of May and the captain’s away day at Enmore Park in early September. His final duty as Captain will be on New Years day when he will announce how much money has been raised for the Club’s charity for the year, N.S.P.C.C., and hand over to 2011 Captain Dave Marks.

Comment from EGU Golf Foundation

Safegarding Children

Modern sports organisations view the issue of safeguarding and protecting children as a responsibility rather than a burden.

The Golf Foundation is fully committed to ensuring that golf provides a safe environment in which children can learn about the sport without fear of abuse in its various forms.

The Golf Foundation is part of the Children in Golf Strategy Group, formed to ensure that the golfing organisations in Great Britain and Ireland would address the issue of child protection collectively rather than independently. Most of the major golfing organisations are committed to the group.

The Golf Foundation has adopted the policy document produced by the Children in Golf Strategy Group and is working with the group to achieve the targets set in the agreed implementation and training plans.

Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf

To ensure that all children and vulnerable individuals have a fun, safe and positive experience, the multi-agency Children in Golf Strategy Group has produced a resource pack called: ‘Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf’.

The pack provides practical advice, sample forms, codes of conduct and guidance, which will be invaluable to anyone involved with junior golf. The pack can be downloaded free of charge via the Children in Golf website.

Training workshops

With the assistance and approval of Sports Coach UK, the Children in Golf Strategy Group has been able to tailor the generic Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop so that it meets the needs of those involved in golf.

The Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop is a nationally recognised training opportunity that provides participants with advice and guidance on issues surrounding the protection of children and young people during golf activity and coaching sessions at clubs or elsewhere. All coaches and volunteers looking to work with young people in golf are expected to attend this workshop as a minimum standard as well as undergoing Criminal Record Bureau checks. Clarification over the impact of the proposed Vetting and Barring Scheme for adults working with young people is still being sought alongside all other sports but for the latest information, please visit: www.childreningolf.org

All of the workshops are led by approved Sports Coach UK tutors and during the workshops attendees will:

· have the opportunity to discuss a range of issues and scenarios relating to golf.

· be given guidance on how to identify poor practice

· receive a copy of the Sports Coach UK/NSPCC 'Protecting Children' resource pack

· be given clear information on how to respond to an incident or allegation

(N.B: Any PGA Professionals attending will receive 25 CPD points)

Information about the child protection workshops can be accessed via the Children in Golf website: www.childreningolf.org
